A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF CARROL LEE CHAMBERS AND EXTENDING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, Carrol Lee Chambers, known as "Carl" or "Mr. C." by his closest friends, departed this life on Thursday, January 7, 1999, causing a great loss to his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers, the oldest of eleven children of Anthony and Druscilla Chambers, was born in Lorman, Mississippi, on October 1, 1907; and

WHEREAS, at an early age, Mr. Chambers accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined the Lorman Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Jefferson County, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, upon completion of his public school education in Jefferson and Claiborne Counties, Mr. Chambers enrolled at the Southern Christian Institute in Edwards, Mississippi, where he participated in basketball and baseball; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers pursued courses in the field of insurance and was employed by Universal Life Insurance Company of Memphis, Tennessee, where he was named "Manager of the Year" of the Greenville, Mississippi, district; and

WHEREAS, an active member of his community, Mr. Chambers was a life member of the NAACP, a member of the executive board of the Forrest County Branch of the NAACP and a poll worker in the Rowan precinct; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers also was a faithful servant to the East Pine African Methodist Episcopal Church as a steward, trustee and Sunday School superintendent, he was honored with the church's "Keep the Faith Award" and as "Church Member of the Year"; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Chambers is survived by his lovely wife, Marjorie, four daughters, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Carrol Lee Chambers, who was a loving husband, father and friend:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of Mr. Carrol Lee Chambers and express our deepest sympathy to his family upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Carrol Lee Chambers and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
